Nordic Naturals' Omega 3's for Brain and Visual Function. I've noticed a difference in my son's ability to comprehend is homework. I've also noticed that hes been aware of his own behavior more now too. I didn't notice right away, but one day it was like night and day, just out of nowhere. So he takes his "brain-brain medicine" before bed every night

There actually is starting to be a lot of research evidence coming out suggesting that certain biomedical treatments are effective, at least in a subset of kids with ASD. It's all very preliminary and further research is needed to figure out which kids benefit from which treatments. My DD was a research participant at UC San Francisco's med school on methyl B12 injections. She was one of the very last kids in the study, and they are working on analyzing the data & getting it through the publication approval process. But what the professor leading the study told me is that he saw about a 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 split between big improvements, mild or mixed results, and no improvement. The next step is looking at the lab results to see if they can find biomarkers associated with the kids who saw improvement vs. those who didn't. The hope is for eventually a lab test to be developed rather than the current trial-and-error approach that DAN doctors are using.

A reputable DAN doctor should do urine, stool, and blood tests to find out what supplements your son needs and if he has sensititives to gluten or casein. They can also test to see if he has an overload of metals etc in his blood. I love our DAN doctor because we have the data to know how to treat my son. I haven't seen a huge change in his autism. But he's healthier, his allergy symptoms are gone, and he's more alert.

The biggest and most obvious improvement that are clearly not palcebo that we saw from biomed was MB12 shots.

@A MyAutismTeam Member - There are already couple of controlled studies published on MB12 already - one showed obvious improvement in about a third of ASD kids (immediate responders). The other controlled study by Jill James showed that MB12 combined with folinic acid was able to bring back methylation markers and glutathione markers back to almost normal/same as control (which is known issue in ASD - that is mechanism by which DMG/TMG may work as well). This is another study that show precursor of methyl B12, which is glutathione dependent, is significantly lower in brains of ASD than control. It isn't a B12 deficiency issue, but an impairment in making methyl form of B12 in some kids.

For some one trying biomed, aside from diet, this is the first and most highly rated biomed treatment that most DAN doctors will prescribe.

MB12 is a water soluble vitamin so any excess not used by the body is flushed out in urine (no toxicity unlike lipid soluble vitamins which can be stored for months). The downside of that is that you have to keep giving the shots frequently (some parents switch to daily shot rather than every 3 day).
