Has Anyone Tried The Drug Procentra For Their Child???
We went to dr today because my daughter has been getting very aggressive and hitting her teachers and therapists. She has never done this before. Her tantrums have gotten much worse. She takes low dose Zoloft daily. The dr today prescribed Procentra for each morning. I am always scared started new meds. Anyone have any experience with this one??
My son I was taking procentra before our insurance decided they wouldn't cover it so his doctor switched him to focalin xr. It is extremely difficult to get any 4 year old to take a pill each morning and 10 times worse trying to get my 4 yr old autistic son who's speech is at the level of a 18 month old to take it. In fact it's torture for both of us. The procentra was nice bc its a liquid base and I was able to just slip it in with a little juice and he had no idea. The two drugs have had very different results. Procentra seemed to work it calmed him down more than anything and I was able to hold his attention longer plus the tantrums and hurting himself or others drastically went down. With the focalin it's been hell. He refuses to take it even if I hide it and open the capsule and put it on a spoon with pudding or something. I get the feeling he doesn't like the way it makes him feel and all honesty I don't like the way he acts on it. He is up till late and his tantrums are worse and last longer and as far as patience, the little that he did have now seems to be gone. Everything I've seen about procentra has very few negative results. I'm taking my son off focalin and going to find a way to get him back on procentra.
I'd suggest you at least try it if it doesn't work for y'all you can always take ur daughter off it and try something else. I've never been one who has agreed with these types of medication until I myself was diagnosed adult ADHD and started taking meds myself and while I'd never have even had any agreement with medicating a child especially so young, I've found myself looking through new eyes. Some children do benefit from medications and its a process of trial and error until you find the right drug and dose.
Good luck
I have never heard of Procentra..my daughter started taking Abilify recently for anxiety.
