The only problem with iPad is don't let him become addicted to it .. Half an hr is fine .. But with the iPad the kids just get zoned out and dnt want to interact ..

My son LOVES his tablet, but his Dr says we need to limit the amount of time he spends with it so that he doesn't rely soley on it and has to communicate and interact with us

Ipad or any touch screen device works. My son use indistinctely iphone or android tablet. He is very good performing apps, specialy those related to music, alphabet and numbers. Apps in android are for free and the androdid is cheaper. i can belive my son can use the android and find the apps, actually it is very difficult for me to use the android :)

Are you looking for the iPad to be
as a communication device or just an educational device? Any of the iPads will do both and there are many apps for educational as well as communication. The smaller one are lighter and portable. I would get a speech therapist involved
to see if iPad is appropriate for communication. Verbal speech is what I would work on for a three year old with some visual support if needed. For educational purpose there are many good apps
Www.a4cwsn.com is one of the best sites to find good apps for our kids.
