We have tried several different meds and several combinations....we have also tried some vitamins and minerals and supplements as well as a GF diet.....I find a mix of all work best for my son. His current (and longest run of the same) prescriptions meds are:
TRAZADONE (for sleep)
CHLORPROMAZINE (to slow down)
PROVIGIL (to focus)
CLONAZEPAM (for anxiety)
DIVALPROEX (to calm and focus)

He also takes:
METFORMIN (for mild early onset of diabities due to all the medicine trals).

His current (and again longest lasting run of the same) non prescriptions meds are:
METHYL B 12 (for health and focus)
PROBIOTIC MULTI ENZYME (for digestion)
VITAMIN D3(for depression)
VITAMIN E(for digestive health)
STOOL SOFTNER(for digestive health)
COQ10(antioxident)
FISH OIL(heart health and mood enhancer)

The bottom line is you will need to find what works best for your family. I suggest reading about someof the "non prescription" therapies. I, myself was resistant to all medications especially those that were not prescribed, but over the years I found the more I opened my mind to it the more I was able to help my child. Good luck to you and your family!

we have used Adderall XL for years w/my son for ADHD. However, we found when he was in high school, the hyperactivity decreased and because of that we took him off it. As far as attention deficit, he is distractable whether on adderall or not, so i'd rather not medicate him if it doesnt do anything. The othet drug we had him on was risperdal. This seemed to help 'connect' his thoughts for a while. but after a few years on this, that too seemed to do very little. i was then told by a new psychiatrit that if you are on risperdal too long it will have the opposite effect - a dulling of the brain is how he described it. So quickly we went off that too! Now he's just on Lexapro/Wellbutrin combo.

My 5yr old daughter is on: 8am- tenex 1mg, prozac 10mg, resperidol, .05mg
12pm- tenex 1mg
4pm- tenex 1mg
8pm- trazadone 50mg, resperdol .05mg, hydroxyzine.
It's a lot and she's still extremely hyper and aggressive. Most times she's just completely out of control; then out of nowhere, she's sweet and calm.
