Is My Daughter More Likely To Use Language Later On If She Uses A Large Amount Of Jargon Now?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daughter is 3 and baby talks, or uses Jargon a lot. it sounds like a monologue sometime how much she goes on. I just can't understand any of it. Is my daughter more likely to use language later on if she uses a large amount of jargon now?

My daughter babbled a lot with her own language and adding in the occasional real word at 3-4. She is now 11 and fully verbal. It's not the same for everyone but she responded well to speech therapy and behavioral interventions (after awhile).

she had lots of ear infections, and had her hearing tested. She was born tongue tied and her tongue clipped. We were hopeful that maybe it was one of those physical problems that was causing the delay or regression. But no, it was autism. I would defiantly get a referral to a Developmental Pediatrician asap, in addition to the hearing screaming. Also you can contact Early Intervention, although they didn't do a whole lot for me as far as therapies. They did do screenings and help get her into preschool. Diagnoses is was gets the ball rolling. To my knowledge only a specialist can do it. In Arizona we have SARRC, which helps also, but many nonprofits don't help until there is a diagnosis.

Try some sign language to get communication started...start with simple ones...like the signs for "more" "drink" "eat" "I Love You" then as time passes...your child may become more vocal...then whatever words come out...then go from there...My Dennis would always point and sound like uuuuugh...we did sign...then he would indicate more or drink or eat...then once he said the words (you always said the words when you signed them) then start to increase the wait time to allow the child to give verbal words...I don't know if your daughter will...but my son was late in the speech department...

<3 Thank you. That makes me very hopeful and opptimistic for her future. Her teaches say they are hearing more words, so hopefully. crossing my fingers :)

Wow, I would love to talk to you...I have so many questions about my granddaughter. She is almost 2 and not talking, she has her own form of communication. She is scheduled for a sedation hearing test as they think she has low frequency hearing loss. I have seen signs for over a year now that make me think she needs an autism screening. Can you tell me more about your experience? Did she go through hearing tests, etc. and what ultimately led to her diagnosis?
