When my son is watching TV or using the computer he chews on his shirt, I know its a comfort thing, but I am not sure if I should just let him or stop him?

Our son also chews his shirts, jackets and gloves. When he gets a cold, he also will chew on washcloths and tissues (which is really gross). We have gotten him those chewies and they do work well. But definitely in times of stress he'll chew anything that's around.

Stress- or excitement-induced shirt collar chewing has permitted me to get rid of 83% of Keiran's T-shirts before they were too small to wear! On the down side, it's tough finding any of his shirts without little holes in the collar. Wish I'd re-channeled his habit when he was about 4 y/o.

One thing that kindve works for my son, who's close to 12 years old, is taking a piece of rubbery/plastic tubing, running a string through it and turning it into a necklace. Sometimes he'll lose it though..lol..but it seems to work.

My son just started to chew on his jacket sleeves too. I usually try to redirect his interests to something else. Often if his mind is engaged, the odd behaviors cease...at least for the moment :)
