I Am Working On Providing ABA In Real World Situations Such As Gyms And Pools. I Also Use Many New Ipad Apps. I Would Like Feedback Please.

I am running an occupational therapy program that takes place in gymnastics and pool facilities. We have found this to be a very effective way to deliver gross motor and fine motor skills. I am working on providing a unique ABA therapy program where our line therapists will be having some of the sessions in a gymnasium, gymnastics and swimming pools facilities. Research has shown that children show greater comprehension and integration when they are physically active. If you had the… read more

I think the more real world situations that ABA therapy can be applied in (and OT/Sensory, and others) the better. After all, our kids need to know how to function once they leave the office, in the real world. My daughter's ABA therapists work with her at the facility, at home, and in her classroom. I think adding other facilities like the pool, gym, park, and even grocery store would be excellent for everyone involved! As far as your use of apps, if you are using touch-to-talk apps, these can also be quite useful to be applied in real situations, like using the proloquo2go touch-to-talk app at the grocery store or restaurant, school, etc.

I can see how adding swim, gym, and other movement events to ABA could add a whole new element.

@A MyAutismTeam Member - you know its more complicated than that. I use two consultants from outside of our state so there's a bunch of things that need to be figured out before you can start services. If you are serious about getting new clients, than you need to show us some information so we know you are legitimate and you're not just after our money. No experienced parent is going to take you seriously. And in fact, I would warn the newer parents to beware of you because you are obvious wanting to take on clients without knowing anything about them. Big red flag my fellow parents. Reputable providers do not behave this way. @A MyAutismTeam Member - is it OK for providers to be soliciting for clients on this site? What is the policy for that?

Possibly, but the biggest thing would be that the ABA provider would need to be contracted with insurance and/or the Regional Center (not sure if they have those where you are but here in CA they provide state-funded services to those with developmental disabilities).

I live in Mass and I would love this! Please let me know if you find anything like this. I'm waiting for a call back from angelfish which is a sensory help class with swimming. Can't wait!

I taught swim parent-tot swim lesssons and had my son in gymnastics. He did great with both of these. I think an ABA program would work well in each of these situations. In what region of the country will you be running these programs?
