My daughter has bitten her wrists for years. She bites when she is mad, frustrated, excited, happy, bored etc. So the anticedent is never the same. We have tried many things but there has only been one thing that has made any significant difference. Her aid came up with an oral sensory diet for her. We alternated every 1/2 hour with the following exercises: Brush teeth with a spinbrush using a strong tasting toothpaste next 1/2 hour we gave a small food item representing each of the tastes sweet, sour, salty and hot. This gave her the oral feedback she was seeking and the amount of biting decreased. As the biting decreased we also increased the time intervals. So we started with every 1/2 hour and within a couple of months we up to just a couple of times a day. Now this didn't completely irradicate the behavior but it greatly decreased it. We also have her wear the sport wrist bands to help protect her wrists when she does bite. Good luck!

The sport wrist bands are those that are like sweat bands. You often see tennis players wear them. You can pick them up at a sporting goods store like Dicks. Also, @A MyAutismTeam Member, with my daughter we have found that she bites because she is trying to take away from some other over-stimulation whether it be good or bad. It's sort goes with that idea of "if I stomp on your toe, I bet you will forget about your headache". If she is really happy or mad or frustrated and doesn't know how to deal with that feeling she will bite and it will devert her attention from the "uncomfortable" feeling for a bit of time. If that makes any sense.

Teething bling by smart moms is 15-20 on amazon and www.kidcompanions.ca is also a good company. You can find both on facebook too

I agree get him something else to bite on. Also is he on meds. some meds cause this reaction and it is really hard to extinguish if it is caused by the meds.

Can you give him an alternate item to bite? My son is very tactile and likes putting things in his mouth while on the computer, so his aides at school got him what we affectionately call his "chew toy" as an alternative to all other unacceptable items....(his is shaped like a key with nubbies on it)
