Potty Training At Night Tips?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Now that my son is 100% consistent using the potty independently during the day, we have been using pullups at night. He's about 5% good with the nighttime! He has phases where he gets it and then regresses and then gets it and regresses. That has been the case for most of his development. At age 7, I just wondered if anyone has any great ideas that helped move this process forward or is it just something that has to develop naturally like it does with a nuerotypical kid. We did not push the issue at night. My son potty trained during the day at about 4 1/2 but didn't train for night until 7 1/2. Now he still has occasional accidents but they are few (probably about once a month) I know using pull-ups can get expensive but we used washable pull-up to cut the cost.

glad to know he is doing better. How does the Gaps diet work. I heard about it, but I have not look into it.

Hope46, all we could get in IL are large size depends, not absorbent and not able to hold on to the runny stools he used to have. Now that he is on the GAPS diet no more runny stools but he is occasionally getting up at night to go potty now. He can still fit in size 7 pullups can you believe they sell those? :)

it took my older son 12 years to potty train. one day, he said, no more diapers mommy. His briefs are still messy at times, but the good thing, he goes to the toilet by himsef. If you are with the regional center, ask your caseworker, if they provides overnights diapers. They used to provide us, with diapers in the past.
