To answer some of the questions, we are working on a feature for you to be able to share your email address with another without posting that email address live on the site. We hope to have this out before the end of the year so that if you need to connect off site, you can do so without sharing your email publicly.

I already get way too many emails, so I would not want anything attached to my Facebook/email account. An option to have PM's here would be nice especially if you do want to share your personal email address or phone number with someone.

I want to share openly as much as possible, but would like the option if I want to share something I don't want to give to everyone...

I do like this idea, I just hope it doesn't prevent people from sharing openly.

Try a direct email. You do not have to post everything online.
