Where Can I Find Sample 504 Plans?
I know there are a lot of sites where you can see sample IEPs. Does anyone know of a site with sample 504 plans? We are developing one for my son, who will be receiving OT as a related service. The school OT and principal have never done one like this before.
Thanks!
Thanks:) I have actually been through a Wrightslaw training (Awesome and SO informative!)and I work in the school system-- not the one my child is in, but I am an interventionist and I used to be a classroom teacher.
The reason we are doing 504 now is that my son does not need a special education placement, but he is going to get OT as related services through a 504 plan. He needs accommodations, but the special programming available for preschoolers where we live doesn't offer a lot of options. He just turned 4 and reads at almost a 3rd grade level, comprehends at a late first grade level. His two big deficit areas are fine motor and social . Right now the choices are 1) self-contained class, where most of the kids are non-verbal and 2) the blended class he is in as an at-risk student, and they are already maxed at their 5 IEP students. Our diagnosis came after he was already slotted in this class.
It's not my ideal, dream situation, but for right now it will allow him OT, the use of all his sensory "stuff" (weighted lap pad, wiggle seat...) and to remain in a class that he enjoys and is a good fit for him.
Thanks-- I just wish I could find some examples of plans so I knew what a "good" one looks like.
You sound like your on the ball there
Why are you looking into 504? Did the school talk you into this? Did they explain the REAL differences between 504 and IDEA? Use www.wrightslaw.com to make sure your getting what your child needs.
