My Son Has Always Had Stomach And Digestive Problems

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Fremont, CA

When he was small he was hospitalized with a digestive tract infection, probiotics seem to help some. When his stomach is doing well he smiles alot, and sleeps all night, but when hes having stomach issues it has and effect on his behavior and has a hard time sleeping. Is there any parents that have the same problems with there kids and what have they done?

We have had the same problems in the past. I found that rotating different probiotics helped . Kirkman Super Pro-Bio and Culturelle dairy free and one other one I can not think of the name just yet . RestoraLax once a day (away from the probiotic ) every day for three months and then again when his bowel is sluggish for 2-3 days . We also found that he became more regular when we started DAN Protocal Methly B-12 shots .they made the world of difference in his bowel and sleep .

I can relate to this. My 7 year old has had g.i. Issues from the moment he stopped nursing. Add being somewhat picky (sarcastic tone, he is very picky) and we deal with tummy issues all of the time. We experience the same thing - tummy good = happy, tummy upset = cranky. Jesse has been loving the yogurt drinks and those help, but he doesn't drink them daily. His pediatrician has him on MiraLax. He does well on it. I am looking into natural options as well. Good luck. I am sorry if I wasn't much help, but wanted you to know that you aren't alone in the situation.

We also us digestive enzymes "Garden of Life digestive enzyme blend " I put them into a pepper shaker with a metal lid .i drilled the holes in the lid slightly larger and then we sprinkle this enzymes on everything he eats and stir .With less undigested food in his bowel he had a lot less gas and can pass gas with less discomfort and , he is better able to get nutrients from his food . We avoid antibiotics at all costs and now only use natural or homeopathic remedies and found that they can take one or two days longer to work ,but have no negative side effects .

His yeast program has worked well for his bowel and brain as well . We use a five day rotation so that the yeast does not build a resistant to the treatments .five days on Difucan ,five days Ailmax liquid, five days !five days of Pau D'Aroc extract ,five days on grapefruit seed extract .always away from his probiotic .

We have changed all of our cooking oil over to virgin coconut oil Which is high in lauric acid ,the main componate in breast milk which makes it great for healing the gut .it also contains caprylic acid which also kills yeast ,fugus and some parasites .the brain does not require receptors to use it as fuel for the brain so it is help full as many autistics who have glucose receptor damage.our little guy can focus better and learn better now .and his gut has much less constapating yeast in it . it is wonderful stuff. You need to use a high quality one from the health food store . Google " coconut benefits " to learn more . We mix it into our margarine ,use it to make pop corn ,in hot cereal , coffee . We try to get around two table spoons collectively a day into him .

Yes go to a GI. I cannot stress enough how many of our kids seem to have issues in the gut, not taken seriously. If this has been a long term issue, clean up the diet, and if the stomach continues to have issues get to a GI.... And if it doesn't end, go to another. The first GI I went to dismissed me as an over concerned mother. At 13 we are changing meds for his gut after most recent scope, and while there is little damage now it shows we are controlling it and yet there is still enough inflammation to warrent continued meds. If we're lucky the new meds will improve focus and behavior. It was night and say when he was four, after two weeks on his gut medication he became verbal.

My son has encopresis, in remission, and has on and off problems. We control his diet as much as we can. Getting fast food out of our diet helped a lot. Also, we don't buy a lot of processed foods and junk food. Seems this has helped ...
