Does Anyone Know Where We Can Obtain Funding For Developing A Program For Young ASD Adults (age 21+) ?
My daughter and 2 of her classmates will soon "age-out" of our state's education program for special needs children. They have "behaviors" that will prevent them from obtaining and keeping a job. Sally, The answer to Q1 is not yet, Q2 in progress, and Q3 my daughter is still attending/ receiving services through our local school system (she can until she reaches age 21).Q4....I'm frustrated....Heather is somewhat verbal when she wants to be and makes me guess the rest of the time. The school has given us the use of a go-talk for her but she doesn't use it much at home. We have a hard time getting her to do the things her teacher says she does at school. Who comes in to help with your son? I'd love to have someone come in and work with her but finding the services .....I guess I have to relearn how to open those cans of whoop ars you mentioned. I was good at that in high school but have mellowed now that I have had children (wanting to set good examples and all) but I now see that every now and then momma lion needs to be super aggressive.
Hi Sally. I live in Alabama and the 21 is the magical age when our children no longer can receive services through the school system. We are just getting started with this idea and I personally haven't talked to anyone. I don't know where to begin to be honest with you. I've basically been surviving my daughter's autism. :(
