How Many Have Tried Their Children On Intuniv?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son is 11 and his nurse practitioner wants to try him on Intuniv. He's currently on Depakote and has been on the same dosage for approximately 2 years. His previous nurse practitioner tried him on Abilify and Klonidine with negative results and I just took him off Imipramene(sp?) and Risperdal a few months ago. Considering the Risperdal intensified his anger and, in the 5 weeks he was on it, he began cutting himself and talking about suicide, I'm somewhat nervous about adding another… read more

My son has been on Intuiv for a few months. He is ADHD & PPD/NOS. the mornings before his meds kick in & at night after they wear off, he was insane! Complete
out of control. Running around the house like a nut, drove ME insane! Dr. Suggested Intuniv & his mornings & evening are soooo much more tolerable!

My daughter has been taking the lowest dose for not quite a year. We didn't notice a big change until we took her off of it over spring break. Then we remembered the out of control hyper ness. She is still hyper on it but much less. I do wonder if it bothers her stomach some, but not anything major. Good luck!

Thanks to everyone for the replie. Just to update; My son has been on Intuniv for almost a year now and, in my opinion, it worked out wonderfully until we increased the dosage to 4 mg. After taking the 4mg for 2 months, he was still incredibly sleepy all the time and I was getting phone calls from his teachers wanting to know if everything was okay because he could not stay awake. We've since reduced the dosage to 2mg and he seems to be doing much better now. He's able to stay awake but isn't bouncing off the walls and is still able to concentrate.

We tried Intunive last year with disastrous results. After a week, he was raging so badly I had to take him off of it. Same reaction with Strattera and Seroquel.

My son has been taking Tenex (Guanfacine), the generic form of Intuniv, for a couple years. It has really helped and we haven't noticed any side effects. We did try Intuniv because he would only have to take it once a day but it did not work.
