My Three Year Old Has NO Intentions On Using The Potty:( I'm Not Stressing About It He Is 3 AND Has ASD. But Wouls Love Tips.
Hi, My name is Lorette and my son Deemy wasn't trained until he was almost 6. Believe it or not our kids sense our stress so you can not put the same timeline on your son as a child without special needs. My son was in a class where most of the kids went potty, I said most, and he started to do as the others. He was VERY MUCH into THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE (he's 18 now) so items were not as easy to find as they are now. I found some undies on e-bay, they were actually toooooo tight but he wore them. We were signing at the time because he was not as verbal. His theory was he did not want to get the trains wet and rust the wheels! LOL Something simple and fun as that. You have to have a CONSISTENT term for potty, etc and he actual has to tire of the wetting/bowel sensation. Stay strong. Show Patience. I am here for you if you need me. e-mail me @AutismNAsthmaMom@msn.com or twitter @Scooties_dtr (in memory of my father) Hang in there!
My daughter is six and still in pull ups. My advise would be that they is not ready and not capable of being trained right now. We tried for a while but we were just making things worse by keeping on the pressure. The truth is that these kids will only do it when they are ready and capable of doing it. If they really cannot comprehend the process or are not ready for it no reward or practice is going to work. Trust me I know it is frustrating and expensive but there is not a lot that can be done sometimes. You should check with your state and see if they have any programs where they will pay for the pull ups, ours does and we just got the process completed. It just takes the Dr to sign off on it.
Cody is 4-we started when he was bout 2 and a half. It takes lots and lots of patience. What helped Cody was going to school and daycare. He is fully trained now. Maybe has had three times at night when he wet in the last 3 months. Get him some little boy underwear and tell him that he is a big boy now and he can wear big boy undies. There will be lots of accidents but that is okay. If he wets take him and put him on the potty and tell him its okay that u and he will just keep trying.
MY SON WAS NOT FULLY POTTY TRAINED TILL HE WAS 7 HE IS 11 WE HAD TO WAIT TILL IS AUTISM AGE CAUGHT UP WITH IS REAL AGE
I had tried to show my son also and he had no interest. But what we noticed is that he was seeing other little boys pee and that was helping. I started to encourage around 3 also but he didn't want any part of it. Then right around 3 yrs 3 mo he started to be able to sit and I would say put a few drops in the potty for me. Then very shortly after that he woke up one morning, took his clothes off and went into the potty by himself. Success. It was very soon after that he was completely potty trained. Even nights. Good luck!
