My son has ASD and LOVES to sing and listen to all kinds of music. Sometimes he dances.

Have you tried right brain music? Right brain music helps improve the right side (hemisphere) of the brain. Examples would be Hungarian Dance No. 5 by Brahms. There is research documenting what types of music and which frequencies of sounds affect either sides of the brain. Most autistic children have a right side deficiency.

Yes, I have noticed many of my kiddos respond and learn through music. We have kiddos that receive music therapy on their IEPS. I also tend to use a lot of music to teach language skills with kids with ASD. It's fun for both of us and helpful with learning!

My son had his winter concert last night. He plays the drum. (well drum pad) & sang in the chorus. I was so proud. He even acted like a little ham. LOL I'll try to post a picture later.

Yes! My 13 y/o has been pitch perfect since he was able to hum. And surprising (to me) his rhythm is excellent. The other day he recorded himself singing "Heartless" by Kanye West on my computer, and while watching it I was amazed that his head, arms, and body rhythm was spot-on, even though walking is not his forte.

Definitely. My son has actually started doing music therapy. Here in Phoenix, we have the Neurologic Music Therapy Service of Arizona. They are working with my son to help improve his body control, taking turns, working in groups, regulating speed (he is either too fast or too slow), etc.
