Anyone Know Of A Way To Get Grants Or Scholarships To A Private School If The School Doesn't Offer Them?
My 5 year old daughter goes to a school that I hate and apparently so does she. She won't/can't talk about school but all the sudden she is acting out refusing to participate and spitting water in teachers faces. I found a private school that is specially for Autistic children and I could even get my insurance to pay most of the 39000 dollar tuition but it's the last 6 to grand that I'm having an issue with because I can't afford it. I believe anywhere would be better for Mikayla then where… read more
Yes, they work with the DOE, DDS, and the town's block grants to fund the out of district placement. The Disability lawyer's know the law and apply appropriately. It wouldn't be a bad idea to also apply for SSI for your daughter. You need to research schools that do out of district placements and you have to have an updated full scale, psychological evaluation and medical evaluation preferably from a specialist that works with autistic individuals in the area of diagnosis. Contact the children hospital in your area and ask who that specialist would be.
Try calling a special education attorney in your area. What they are sometimes able to do is to get the school district to pay for the private school.
DrShirley, Mikayla was just diagnosed and in august and we did more testing in October and in January we will get the results of that. I am in the process of looking into SSI for her, the school we're trying to get her into is an Autistic school that is out of district but it's also a private school. I will contact a disability lawyer because it sounds like they might know how to help thanks!
