Does Your Adult Autistic Offspring Struggle With Being A Work-o-holic And Subsequent Burnout?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Franklin, IN

It's hard for me to slow down. When my body says to rest but my mind says go-go-go. Battles that rage in my head daily.
As evident I'm a work-o-holic. From the time I get up until I go to bed, I'm working. A Full-time Job and at least two passion projects that I try to give attention to every day.

@A MyAutismTeam Member this resonates with me a LOT! I'm glad I don't ruminate like I used to.

Can A Childcare Centre Restrict You Child To Limited Hours ? They Are Claiming Due To Inclusion Support They Will Only Allow 6 Hours Per Day

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Sydney, AU

My son is autistic, non verbal. He attends a childcare who has applied for inclusion support. However they today handed me a letter to sign which outlines I cannot leave me son with their care more than 6 hours a day. If I go over the 6 hours I will be charged $35 an hour.
I'm so upset and feel so disappointed. I was planning on returning back to work however cannot due to this restriction.

A MyAutismTeam Member

Thanks for your response Gary I've spoken to them and they have agreed to extend the hours to 7.5 hours a day. I appreciate you

Any Experiences With Children / Family On The Autistic Spectrum Struggling With Public Bathrooms?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
San Francisco, CA

Hi there all, we're looking to highlight the experiences of people on the autistic spectrum struggling with public bathrooms. i.e. the sensory overload from air dryers and automatic flushes. We think this is a really important issue that is not in the public conversation so please get in touch if you want to share an experience around this.

The hand dryers are bad but predictable. The auto flush toilet nearly derailed potty training for two of my kids. We had to go back to pullups while on vacation at a popular theme park because of… read more

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son will be five next month but he doesn’t understand the concept of age or birthdays. Are there any learning tools or apps that would help him learn about counting/numbers, letters, etc.? I’m trying to enroll him in some kind of structured program and vacillating between ABA therapy, a special ed classroom or general ed pre-school/T-K. He hasn’t grasped basic concepts of learning and is mostly non-verbal. However, he goes to speech therapy several days a week and it has helped him. TIA for… read more

Does Your Child Struggle With Anger Issues?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Franklin, IN

When I was around eight years old, I began to have anger issues. I had outbursts, would call people names, and would even hit others. It came to a head when I slapped my grandmother in front of my family. My mother took me to a therapist and after three or so months I was much better. She didn't conclude I was Autistic for some reason, but that's a whole other story.

A MyAutismTeam Member

My son avoids conflict. He only hits himself if he's stressed out & overwhelmed. He's never had any angry outbursts or anything like that. I try to keep a very positive, calm & relaxing environment… read more

I am looking into them as well. I have heard mixed things from the professionals who work with my son at school. I have read some good parent reviews online.
