My 33 Year Old Son Has Severe Autism And Is Severely Mentally Challenged. All Of A Sudden He Has Become Obsessed With Masturbating.

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Caseville, MI

Before he would occasionally (actually seldom) masturbate but now he does it all day, every day. Not sure what is going on and why this has changed. I am baffled. He is extremely low functioning and totally non-verbal. He does not know what he is doing or can be inappropriate. He would not understand even if I explained it to him. He has the cognitive comprehension of a 2-year old child in most areas.

I would talk to an ASD-knowledgable therapist, if you can.

🚨 How Do I Get My Son To Stop Biting Himself, Banging His Head? 🚨 I KNOW THIS IS LONG PLS READ ANYWAY

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Greenville, SC

Ok so he displays the same SIB (to varying degrees) when he's trying to communicate and gets frustrated, when he gets frustrated in general or overwhelmed, when he gets reprimanded for something, wants attention... But the most intense (and it seems frequent) times he does it is when he's angry - usually because he's not getting something that he wants, is being told no outright, or that he can't have/do something right now. He throws a tantrum (not a meltdown), throws himself on the floor… read more

Daycare And My Autistic Child

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Spring, TX

Can I report a daycare for wanting to kick my child out because of his autism episodes?

A MyAutismTeam Member

It’s a difficult conundrum because looking at it objectively you can see why daycare centers wouldn’t want kids who were very disruptive or even harmful to other children.
