College Grievance Process

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Reston, VA

My high functioning Aspergers son is 24 years old and a senior at a 4 year college, majoring in Communications. He aspires to work with Transmedia. Other than schedule reminders and dealing with over stimulation during discussions of controversial topics, his biggest problem in college is other people "trolling" him. During the first day of class on 8/26/13, a student stepped out of class and called the police claiming that my son's hand flapping resembled a gun holding gesture and that he… read more

If you didn't speak with the director of the equity office, do that. If you did, I'd take it to the dean responsible for equity.

Guns, Would You Keep One In Your Home If You Have A Child Who Is Autistic?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Montgomery, IL

I know this is a touchy subject, but WOW - I won't let anyone care for my son in their home if they keep guns. I couldn't possibly feel safe having one in my home. Is there some special safety training given to people who are licensed to have guns? Every so often I hear of a child getting hurt because of playing with dad's stuff. I'm surprised there aren't more accidents, but most lawful citizens are trained in safety right? I'm just curious to hear what your thoughts are.

Which State Has The Best Public School System To Support ASD Kids.

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Houston, TX

Been fighting with school for the last couple of years just to get adequate support for my son. Even with the support I don’t think the quality is good. Thinking about moving to another state. Can any parent share positive experiences with public school? Thanks.

Symptoms More Pronounced When Sick

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Ann Arbor, MI

Has anyone ever noticed that their child's symptoms get worse when they are coming down with an infection of any kind. Viral, bacterial ( like strep), flu, etc.? Our son tends to become more hyper with milder illnesses. He also struggles more with expressive/receptive language than usual when he has a fever. I'm just wondering if anyone has these similar experiences and if they have any information about it.

A MyAutismTeam Member

Some research I've done over the years, that the brain gets inflammation. I've notice this too.
