Opting Out Of IEP?

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭
Vancouver, BC

I'm from BC, Canada and in the process of withdrawing my son from IEP and Special Education Support at School. I am just curious to know if anyone has gone through the same. Thanks in advance. Any input is very much appreciated.

Hello wonderful moms! My son will be Grade 5 this Fall. Unfortunately I cannot homeschool him. I mean, I still prefer him to go to mainstream school without IEP in place.

My husband and I feel he would benefit more from after school tutoring. Behaviour wise his ok at school.

@A MyAutismTeam Member I actually bought book report materials from teacherspayteachers because of your awesome review of the website 😊. Thanks!

Hi gratitude_attitude, yes, I did this. My son was gonna need to transition to the fourth grade. The district believed he belonged in a severely handicapped class. I remember when I went to view the class, the teacher scared me when she asked if my son knew his ABC's. I freaked out, yanked him out of the district and homeschooled him. He did fine, his IEP transferred to his homeschool program too. Make sure you ask the homeschool about his IEP. Best of luck to you.
He is now 18, and doing well.

I live in California I withdrew my daughter at age 3 from her IEP. I started homeschooling around that age.... are you looking into homeschool? I didn’t care for the special education programs in my school district so homeschool was the only other option I have. A great website for homeschool special education is: teachers pay teachers.com
My daughter is 5 next year will be in the first grade. I like the teachers pay teachers “ special education” file folders. It’s a great hands on learning system. Also they have file folders from speech therapists too. I hope this answers your question.... God bless and I hope that everything goes smoothly as you transition from special education.
