My son is 10 and just started talking about a year and a half ago, at the start it was just a few words and now we are up to about 30 completely understandable.

My son is 10 and he started speaking a word here and there around 6. I remember the speech therapist telling us that if he didn't start talking by 6 then he wouldn't speak at all. I don't agree with that myself. I've witnessed first hand a boy in my son's class that was non-verbal actually saying a word or two and he was 8 or 9 when this happened.

Our son is 5-1/2 and still has minimal speech, but he is trying so hard, and every day we are seeing a little more progress. The ABA recommended just talking everything out, and I realize I do this when we are outside, but not as much inside, so we are trying that now too. (Hey, I'm stirring the blue bowl with a spoon. - And he said spoon.) He's imitating a lot now, which is fine, because it's still talking! This is all relatively recent, so hang in there.

Our kids just don't get develop the same as other kids, and I'm still learning to be patient and accept that even though they are baby steps, it is still progress. It's just a longer journey to get where we want to be.
