we just moved back from a long stay in the middle east and our son is autistic with ID and he is now 25 years old. we live in virginia now and looking for any program that can help us place him even if it is a private as all the state funded has a long waiting list. so we can pay for his placement until such time we get the waiver approval. please help us if you you have a name or a resource of a consultant to guide us through

What is the biggest thing I need to do to get my son back on an IEP plan? He was pulled off at the end of 3rd grade, now in 5th grade. We just had him re-evaluated at Kennedy Krieger becasue of my concerns with his language disability, I felt the school was disregarding, not to mention his serious executive functioning challenges. We have been going back and forth. With our 25 year old son who is autistic, with aggressive behaviors. He was on respiradone and the doctor changed it to invega which worked for the first 7 days and then all hell broke loose whe. He started to become so hyperactive and was eating until he vomits. My son is 9 and has all sorts of toys & stuffed animals he loves dinosaurs any type of hard or squishy animal toy he also has tons of what I call his squishy toys which ou can find at walmart in the 1.00 toys they streach and are all different colors and bugs. My 3 year old grandson has autism and sensory disorder. He is scared of the potty ,refuses to even sit on it. He poops in the floor and hates to wear clothes ,Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Usually my son is very hard to wake in the morning ( takes about a half hour of hard rubbing and talking to him to get him to even open his eyes and sit up) but twice this week he has been up for a while before me, Is it common for sleep issues go from one extreame to the other like this? Any advice for making his and everyone (teachers, classmates, siblings) day without sleep easier?

Has anyone been a part of the Talisman Transitions program in Hendersonville, NC? My son is 20 years old, graduating from community college in the spring 2013, and will transfer to university in the near future. However, we would like to find out more about this program before he ages out of it.
